I purchased this for my father, who always asks for a "thing of the day" type of calendar for Christmas. Over the years I've bought all sorts of different 365-day calendars for him, ranging from brain puzzles to jokes to uses for duct tape - but this airplane one was especially great because he saved all the pages and waited until his grandson (my nephew) would visit to fold them up into the little airplanes. Folding and flying the planes was a fun thing for them to do together. The planes are in color, which is another plus for this calendar, as many of the thing-of-the-day type calendars are just in black and white. Some of the planes flew better than others, though experiments with changing the wing angles, locations of folds, adding a paperclip to the nose for weight, etc. made big differences with some.I highly recommend this, as it serves as both a functional calendar and an ongoing toy.

The best thing about this book (a box calendar with each page converting into a paper airplane to build) is its terrific organization. The designs for each plane are shown on each page as you are working on it, so you can't "lose" the directions, and they are relatively easy to grasp. The whole project is clear and well organized, with about 12 designs which repeat over the year, each time on different stationary. Each calendar page must be trimmed into a square, and the result is about 4" by 4". My ten -year old got this book on request in July, and couldn't rest until he'd built every plane from January to the present date. He did experience a little frustration on one or two models, and I had to put on my thinking cap as well, but when those planes came up again, he experienced the thrill that comes with mastery of a challenge. Luckily, however, some of the simplest planes fly most beautifully, and if you screw up on one model, you'll get several more chances to retry it. I particularly enjoyed the simple glider on paper printed with a butterfly pattern.Caveat: There is one plane which has a fold which requires a little paper folding experience to understand, and two planes which involve taping or glueing on a wing that don't quite work as well as the planes that don't require this extra step.

We gave this to our kids this Christmas as a stocking stuffer, and I had no idea how much of a hit it would become. Every day, before breakfast, they run down to create the new airplane of the day! Of course, I have to help with the folding as some of the models are a bit difficult, but overall, we are very happy with this purchase. One thing I need to mention however, I don't think we've managed to make ANY of our airplanes actually fly (and we've made 21 so far). Yes, you heard me correctly! We are VERY careful to follow the directions, which aren't hard, by the way. But even if none of them end up flying well, we still will love this calendar and most likely buy another one next year .. it's just so fun putting them together each day! What a great gift that you can buy for one event (like Christmas) and have it last every day for the entire next year! I wouldn't hesitate to buy another.

ok

I bought this for a friend whom I work with in a call center figuring it could be fun to make planes and throw them around as a stress release. He has enjoyed the planes and each one is different from the last. One thing he said was that they are a little difficult to make some days, but he enjoys the challenge.

kids love it at school and home - I bought several of these to have handy for kids at school They are always a hit, especially boys in middle school. They like the designs, and learn to follow the directions to succeed.

WE LOVED THIS

Santa brought this calendar to my 8-yr old son and the models are simple enough and the directions clear enough that he has successfully completed most of the 12 for the year so far. It's a nicely done, coloful page-a-day calendarl.
