Really good book for school age kids. I read it to my 5th graders. They really liked it and many asked each day if we'd read more. The pictures are great and it's written in a way that kids can easily understand.

Great for 1st through 3rd grade. I have a 4th and 6th grader and its way too simple for them. Cute book though and youngers should enjoy it.

We read this one at home and presented to our daughter's 1st Grade class for some quality history/civics lessons (to be read by teacher, since the book itself is more suitable for 3rd graders). The kids were fascinated by the real story of the efforts of many people who drafted the constitution.

The Maestro's do a fantastic job teaching the story of the Constitution through children's literature. Information is presented in manageable easy to understand pieces. This makes concepts conducive to scholar retention yielding a lasting impression.

This was the perfect book to read to my class on Constitution Day!

History in a nutshell - great for 1 - 3 grades and beyond

This book gives an understandable view of how our Constitution came to be. It is good to read in context with studying other aspects of the colonial time period as well as the Revolutionary War. There is a great map at the beginning and resources at the back with the preamble as well as an explanation of the Articles and Amendments. There is a list of all the signers, a summary of important dates and bit of interesting facts about the convention and delegates. Definitely a good resource.

True History is not being taught in our schools anymore. So i have decided as a grandmother i will do the correct teaching. I am building a library of true history for my grandchildren and future generations in our family.

This is THE book to have if you or someone you love has cancer. When my husband was diagnosed with incurable, stage IV kidney cancer, I wanted to do anything in my power to keep him healthy for as long as possible. I'm in charge of the cooking, so that's where I started. His oncologist and dietician told us we didn't need to change his diet. That was pretty shocking to me, I've always believed if you feed your body healthy things, it will be better able to fight disease. While we were cheking out after seeing the doctor, one of his nurses quietly said to me, "Sugar feeds cancer. Cut out the sugar." That sent me on an all out search for the best cancer diet I could manage - and I knew I wasn't going to get it from hospital staff. I found this book just randomly searching the web, and it was the only book I needed to buy. I bought several more, but "Anticancer: A New Way of Life" has been, far and beyond, the most informative and motivating thing I've read. Thanks to David Servan-Schreiber, I have slowly, but steadily removed cancer-feeding foods from our home. We no longer use cleaning supplies or hygene products with toxic ingredients. My husband is still with us after two years of fighting, and is still doing pretty well. I have personally gotten much healthier and dropped 20 pounds by cutting out the bad stuff.My copy is dog-eared and written in. I've got notes on most of the pages and lots of things are highlighted. There's tons of information that your oncologist isn't going to give you, but you need to know. It was a God send for us. Every cancer patient should own a copy.

It came as a total shock when I found out I had a brain tumor in October, 2009. I am a non-smoker, a vegetarian, I've always been slim and I exercised 3-4 days a week. I'd seen this book before my diagnosis and thought it looked good, but didn't buy it. I thought I didn't need it.Once I realized the author also had brain cancer and had been able to keep it in check for over 15 years through diet and other means, I knew this was the book for me. If you want to learn how to do something, go to someone who has done it! So I bought the book. It's an easy read and is backed up by scientific research and 28 pages of footnotes in case you want to learn more. The book is very specific in its recommendations.I took the plunge around Christmas, 2009 and have been following the diet ever since. I underwent a year of chemotherapy treatments at the same time. During that time I periodically had MRI's that showed the tumor was shrinking. The tumor has continued to shrink even after I finished chemotherapy in January, 2011, so the diet change and supplements are having the intended effect.Reading this book and changing what I eat has been incredibly empowering for me. I thought I knew a lot about nutrition before, but I learned some important things from Dr. Servan-Schreiber:- Vegetables to eat daily (broccoli, cauliflower, brussel sprouts, all cabbages)- Good oils to use (olive and canola)- Spices to add (garlic, ginger, turmeric)I also learned some sobering facts about sugar (see page 61):"The German biologist Otto Heinrick Warburg won the Nobel Prize in medicine for his discovery that the metabolism of malignant tumors is largely dependent on glucose consumption. (Glucose is the form of digested sugar in the body.) In fact the PET scan commonly used to detect cancer simply measures the areas in the body that consume the most glucose. If a particular area stands out because it consumes too much sugar, cancer is very likely the cause."I never thought I could kick the sugar habit, but after the first two weeks it wasn't hard. I found substitutes to feed my sweet tooth - berries, fruits, cinnamon, stevia, and baker's chocolate (which is unsweetened) with any of the above.If you have the right motivation I believe you can do just about anything. My plan is to live well and long!UPDATE:March 2, 2018 - It has been over eight years since my first symptoms of an oligodendroglioma appeared. My tumor shrank considerably, from over 5 cm to about 2.5 cm over 5-6 years. If it were not in the brain, this would be called remission, but in the brain it's called regression. During the past year it has started to grow again, at first slowly and now more aggressively in one area.For me, nutrition is still a key factor in how I live my life and maintain my health. There is plenty of scientific evidence to support this (see How Not to Die by Dr. Michael Greger or his nonprofit website, NutritionFacts.org). Health is determined by so many other factors. What we eat is simply one of these.

If you have been diagnosed with cancer and feel that there is nothing you can do to increase your survival after treatment, read this book! I am buying one for a friend, I'd love to put one in every Oncologist office. I am going through chemotherapy right now and am incorporating these dietary and lifestyle changes. If I survive long term, I'll come back here and right an even better review!!

He was given 2 years after his lung cancer diagnoses, and this June it will be 7. Lots of useful information in this book.

This is a well-written book written by a cancer survivor.His basic explanation of what cancer is and how it grows was easy to grasp. If a reader understands that, everything else in this book will fall into place.The author cites a large of amount of research in discussing the effects of lifestyle vs. genetics and how that relates to cancer.I found the portions regarding "terrain" to be intriguing. He wrote about everything: nutrition, exercise, psychology, meditation.....I bought this book after reading another book that referenced some of this book's material.I recommend this book for anyone interested in a multi-faceted anti-cancer book.

Literally Life Changing! Seriously, like not using those words flippantly. I've always viewed people who eat organic, grass-fed, blah-blah, as people who just had money to blow or just REALLY cared about the environment, but now, I GET IT. I started reading this book because a) I wanted to eat "healthier" after the birth of my second child, but didn't want to do some fad diet and 2) my husband had a relapse of thyroid cancer and when your husband has cancer twice, as the author mentions, you want to do everything you can to make sure it doesn't happen again again.

To me, this seemed like a textbook, with very valuable business lessons. Very good illustrations of the actual negotiations scenarios from different fields including sports, government deals, etc. Only reason I am not giving 5 stars because of its textbook type format, but that is completely an individual opinion. One thing I noticed particularly is about generalizing the strategies explained here. I believe, in every situation, the context, timeline, stakeholders will be different and it might be difficult to apply the knowledge directly, and therefore, each situation should be dealt with the consequences of actions pertaining to that moment of time. Of course, the fundamental principles learned here will be helpful. Overall, this is a worthwhile book to add to my personal shelf and is in there now.

Another fantastic book by Deepak Malhotra. This book reminds us that negotiators are humans, using both real world examples (sports, entertainment, healthcare, technology, history, international relations, etc) and a few key principles. Having seen Malhotra teach (put this on your bucket list!), I especially appreciated the teaching tidbits he incorporated into the book. As someone who teaches negotiations to MBAs, I learned a lot!

Highly readable and applicable negotiating principles for all manner of interactions and conflicts though mostly for business. The author keeps the strategies and techniques interesting by framing them in the context of larger conflicts in which they were applicable.

This book is as fun to read as it is original and informative! A must-have for anyone looking to improve their negotiation skills.

About the Author

JONATHON GREEN is a lexicographer, that is a dictionary maker, specializing in slang, about which he has been compiling dictionaries, writing and broadcasting since 1984. He has also written a history of lexicography. After working on his university newspaper he joined the London 'underground press' in 1969, working for most of the then available titles, such as Friends, IT and Oz. He has been publishing books since the mid-1970s, spending the next decade putting together a number of dictionaries of quotations, before he moved into what remains his primary interest, slang. Jonathon's slang work has reached its climax, but he trusts not its end, with the publication in 2010 of Green's Dictionary of Slang, a three-volume, 6,200-page dictionary 'on historical principles' offering some 110,000 words and phrases, backed up by around 410,000 citations or usage examples. The book covers all anglophone countries and its timeline stretches from around 1500 up to the present day. For those who prefer something less academic, he published the Chambers Slang Dictionary, a single volume book, in 2008. Very disappointed. If you know anything about SharePoint already please don't bother getting this book. First off the image/print quality of all the screen captures in the book are so horrible you can't make out anything - they might has well left them out all together. 80% of this book just goes through the basics of how to create a based site and work with very basic features which nearly all people will learn on their own by just playing with it.

This book can be read and implemented in a intense weekend. By Monday everyone will be amazed at your expertise.I had to google some of the stuff in this book, because I am using sharepoint 365, and some commands are in a different place. Nothing very complicated.I would give this book 6 starts. Great job.Only recommendation to the author is to update it to the latest sharepoint edition.

I hoped to learn something new, but this book basically describes SharePoint features (templates) that can be used for some aspects of Project Management. You can learn the same by playing with SharePoint for a few days and reading some free online tutorials. There were a few nominal tips but nothing extraordinary that wouldn't have been learned with a little experience.

Pretty cool deal

This is the second book i have read by Dux. This book very much aligns with his previous book. I wish he would write another that was a little more technical, ie customized work flows, but i get it this is a good users guide for working with share point.

Simplicity at it's best. Many projects do not require overly complex methodologies or software to run them. At the end of the day, communication and collaboration counts for more than any thing else. Which is what Dux and his book bring to the table in clear and very concise ways utilizing a platform that is easy to use and is already available within most organizations. And if not available, there is always Office 365.

Ii consider myself a super user of Sharepoint. This book helped in some areas but I was still finding myself Googling questions after certain sections.

I enjoyed this book quite a lot I read thru it in about 2 days, I have a lot of experience with SharePoint so I skipped performing the actual practice scenarios and I can say this book definitely drove the message home. If you are either new or intermediate PM this book is a worthwhile read and if you are knowledgeable on SharePoint and want to know how to apply it toward your projects its a great start.My only observations is that the section of dashboards could probably be more in-depth and include more screen captures, aside from that the context of the book is straight forward and you can grow the knowledge from this book easily and adjust SharePoint to your needs.

This book just bridged the gap!My first hand experience is a solid proof that this book did the magic and really worked for me! I learned about I'm lacking "executive presence" from a networking meeting with a senior finance executive in the industry. Not quite fully understood what it means, I did some research on Amazon and bought the book. Turned out it's the best $12.24 I've ever spent! The book indeed focus more around women and minorities, which are exactly what I was looking for, and it has plenty real life examples, statistics and actionable advice. It mentioned a lot of common pitfalls that no one in your office will mention to you about. That's what makes this book valuable. I adopted advice from this book and I applied it to a series of interviews for a job which explicitly requires "executive presence" at a prominent tech company. My performance during the interview process blew the whole team away and I got this high-paying job that took my career to a whole new level! This is totally life changing! I can't do it without tips learned from this book. ROI is huge!The only complaint I had about this book is that the book uses a lot of old English, which makes it a bit hard to read, especially that English is my second language. But my Kindle makes it convenient for me to look up those odd words. Still it's not a deal breaker. Just a heads-up.

She does not shirk from the tough issues faced by many in developing their executive presence.I came away from the book with a number of practical ideas that I incorporated into my engagement with stakeholders and the board level. Early indicators show encouraging results!I also found the sections that specifically addressed women to be extremely valuable. As a male responsible for the professional development of female team members, these insights will enable me to support them more effectively and be a better sponsor in terms of their progression. And yes, I have recommended the book to them as important reading.

When the book started it leaned heavily on looks and while the book makes its point, I felt it was beating a dead horse mentioning looks several times. I gave it 4 stars because there’s a lot of usable content. Some attributes I feel were rushed. Some parts went from one vignette to another to another teach us about the principles of EP except I was getting lost in what principle was being focused on. Felt similar at times. In general, worth the read.

However, Sylvia Hewlett’s take on this issue rings true where other books I have read left me with a discomfort that something is missing from the explanation.There are two reasons for trusting this book. The first is that Dr Hewlett lived the problem she has tackled in this book. The second is that she has been able to do a piece of credible research that turns the “woolly and elusive concept” of EP into a clear, securely founded, practical model. “Which is why I wrote this book,” she explains.Dr Hewlett grew up in a Welsh mining community, had few clothes, no social graces and spoke English with a thick working-class accent. Despite her formidable intelligence, she failed her interview for a place at Oxford University despite qualifying, because she was so inappropriately dressed for the situation. (Not knowing any better, she had dressed like the Queen Mother!)She also qualified for Cambridge University and after the interview at which she dressed more appropriately, was accepted into the University.She taught Economics at Barnard College (associated with Colombia University) where she initially had difficulty convincing anyone she was a professor and not a student, and was not taken seriously by faculty. Aged 27, (which is very young for such a position,) she her hair waist-long and wore flowing ethnic skirts. “I now understand that my early struggles to command attention and respect in lecture halls and faculty meetings did not center on content or delivery (I was a clear, crisp speaker and knew my material cold), but rather centered on the way I presented myself.”If the first reason for trusting this book is the author’s personal experience, second reason, is the research conducted through the Center for Talent Innovation, where Dr Hewlett is President and CEO. Her research team conducted a national survey involving nearly 4,000 college-educated professionals. Included in the cohort were 268 senior executives. The research aimed to ascertain what co-workers and executives look for when they evaluate an employee’s EP.Without Executive Presence, no one attains a top position, lands an extraordinary deal, or develops a significant following. Executive presence is not a measure the person’s ability and performance, rather it is a measure of the image you project that you “have what it takes, that you are star material.”Each year the Concert Artists Guild hosts an international competition. From an applicant pool of 350 instrumentalists and singers from all over the world, 12 extraordinary young musicians are brought to the Merkin Concert Hall in New York City where a distinguished jury judges the finalists.What emerges with regularity is the importance of non-musical factors in the final judgement. Did the musician smile, exhibit confidence, make eye contact with the audience, and so on?The world of work is no different.Executive Presence is comprised of three pillars that apply across all industries, all business types and all economies. The specifics differ vastly. What is required in a high-end law firm is not the same as in a chain of supermarkets, a hospital, or and marketing firm.The three pillars are “Gravitas” how you act, “Communication” how you speak, and “Appearance” how you look.These pillars are not of equal importance. “Gravitas” was identified as mattering most by 67% of the 268 executive in the survey. “Gravitas” implies knowing your field exceptionally well.“Appearance” might seem to be highly important from my introduction to this column, but it is not, rated only 5% of what makes up Executive Presence. “Communication” was rated 28%.Gravitas is not only projecting intellectual horsepower, but also having the confidence and credibility to get heard and accepted. As I have written a number of times in the column, a brilliant idea poorly presented sounds like a poor idea.A great comfort emerges form the research conclusions on Appearance, the third pillar of Executive Presence. Appearance is defined as “grooming and polish” rather than “physical attractiveness” or “body type” according to the respondents. These, fortunately, can be corrected where “physical attractiveness” or “body type” usually cannot.“Crack the EP code you’ll be first in line for the next plum assignment and be given a chance of doing something extraordinary with your life,” asserts Dr Hewlett. To do that, read this book. It is an easy read full of accounts of familiar business executive and other leaders.
