Granted, it actually doesn't weigh much, but you get the idea. It's an intermediate, however short, level rhetorical guide on arguing. It, to me at least, seems a slight misnomer to be labeled as the "Elements of Reasoning" because I felt it was more an arguing type book. But then again, I'm not in the depths of logos as the academics were/are. It is highly practical for use in conversing and thinking what and how to make a statement and form a decent conclusion if one is not being interviewed by a panel judging your statements -- you'd want a heavier book for that.

"The Elements of Reasoning" offers a good introduction to using logic as a basis for making arguments. If you want to improve your skills of debate, or familiarize yourself with Aristotlian rules of rhetoric, this is the book for you. I read it and enjoyed it, although much of it was familiar and a bit obvious. I think even an observant viewer of Sunday morning political shows will be familar with the techniques covered -- inventions, conjectures, definitions, as well as the age old structures of syllogisms and enthymemes. If you are already familiar with such things, no need to read this book.

I got the kindle version and it was hard to read the larger panels on my small phone screen. It was perfectly fine on a larger tablet.If you are a fan of the show and haven't read this, I will warn you that there are substantial differences. It is as if a drunk person explained the plot of the comic books to the screenwriter in a loud bar, and them the screenwriter wrote the show from memory a month later. This is to say that the 'highlights' from the comics made it to the show, but it is still a different story.People are on here trying to review this with deep literary analysis techniques, as if this were Shakespear or Proust or something. This is a comic about zombies. There are many like it, but this is the best one.If you like the show, you will like the comics. I promise. They complement each other, but are different enough to warrant spending time on both.

I bought this after watching the first 7 seasons of the TV show (and being severely disappointed with it from about season 4 onward), and it’s GREAT. I’m so grateful that the TV show inspired me to check out the comic, because the comic is better in many ways—but also, it’s different enough from the TV show that it’s engaging even from the pure plot and character development perspective, since people and events diverge so frequently from what I expect from watching the series.I’ve ordered (but not yet received) the next two volumes of the compendia [shifts glasses up nose], based on how good this volume is. Already, there are so many things that are different from the series, that I’m on the edge of my seat just wondering how things can possibly turn out here.HUGE SPOILERS for those who don’t care about surprises but want to get a sense of how different the comic is from the series: So there’s no Daryl, Merle, or Beth; Sophia, Lori, and Dale live but Carol dies; Carol is a needy sex freak; Rick loses his right hand early on; Michonne shacks up with Tyreese, Andrea shacks up with Dale; they never use the term “walkers” but DO discuss terminology periodically; Glenn isn’t a virgin at the beginning.

I've purchased all volumes up to 22 and the TV show has just about caught up to wear I am in the novels. These books are friggen awesome. I don't read much and my buddy lent me VOL 1 after he knew I liked the show. Well, I burned through the first one and then just went on a tear buying 4 volumes at a time...the price is pretty good for what you get out of these. $9-$15 is the range I've paid per novel, I'm not sure why they aren't the same but anyways, I keep buying them none the less. The story was written before the TV Show and the show follows the story but there is some differences. The written story is more violent and graphic then the tv show but the tv show does a decent job of sticking with main ideas. I've noticed that certain plot things that happen in the book also happen in the show but there is a unique twist like a different character it happens to or something like that. Which makes reading these volumes great cuz I have some idea of where the story is going (after having watched all tv episodes) but there are still surprises. If you like the TV show and haven't read these, give it a try and you will get a whole new experience of the Walking Dead story. I'm putting this same review under every volume I've purchased (1-22) so people can see it. go buy these!

..THE WALKING DEAD - Book One......"the continuing story of survival horror" was a partial repeat for me, but still enjoyable....and a great October read!The story of Officer Rick Grimes and cohorts moves forward through a world of devastation and zombies to include the horrific accident near the farm all the way through to finding the prison....and what's behind all the fences and corridors inside.Book One also includes a short special holiday story featuring Morgan and Duane, some great character sketches to help keep everyone straight and some really cool COLOR artwork designs. The one of Rick, Lori and Carl is my personal favorite with the creepy night time burial scene a close second.If I had a wish, it would be that this series of hardcover books were entirely in color, but that won't deter me from reading and purchasing the rest. I am definitely now a bona fide WD junkie....quite a bit late to the party, I know, but still definitely hooked!

I can't wait til the hubby is done with these so I can actually read them. We are fanatic TWD watchers and I finally got a chance to check these off on his Christmas list!!! He isn't a very big reader , but oh my goodness he read through these so fast!! and the entire time I had to tell him to stop telling me parts cause I wanted to read them, he said that they are um a little more "informative" than the show, so I would say NSFK's, which im really happy that he read them first and we know not to hand them over, we even feel uncomfortable giving them to our 15yo. I got him books 1&2 and plan on working on getting him a set of 2 twice a year. I would suggest getting them after you've watched the show only because if you read them first you might be a little disappointed that some things don't happen in the show that happen in the book. But if reading after the watching the show it gives a little more depth to most of the scenes. overall im happy with my purchase and plan on getting more

Last Oct.06 I bought the first book,"Limu the Blue Turtle" for my 2 year old while we where in Maui. she loves it and enjoys having it read to her. This one is not as good. It is shorter and some of the characters are missing. The animation is pretty good however and is worth having,if you have the first one. Bottom line,If Kimo writes another,I hope it is better then this one. Limu RULES!!!. Mahalo

This is a great book and a great follow-up to the original Limu the Blue Turtle story. The story is engaging and the book is beautifully illustrated. The message of friendship and environmental stewardship is timeless and so important to teach to our children. I highly recommend this book to anyone looking for a sweet story full of Aloha!

I think best for 3-4 year old & after 5 a little too simple. Visually lovely though, color pops off the pages. Does have a good message which I think my grandchildren absorbed.

This is a BEAUTIFUL book with a simple story about Limu, a turtle that ends up with an invasive species problem that he solves with the help from some friends. While it's simple enough for my 2-year old to enjoy, it's also a great story to reference when talking to my older son about invasive species, ecology, and trying to make things right. Overall very charming, beautiful, and educational. No complaints here!

This book is very colorful!! My niece loves turtles and she loves that the turtles are different colors. We play where is the blue turtle, red turtle, etc.. I love the story about the turtles!! Will buy book again for next child!!

This is my son’s favorite book. We picked it up in Hawaii during our vacation and instantly fell in love with it. Very nice story about a turtle and the coral reef. It stresses out an important issue about invasive species of plants and the fact that we should all take good care about our natural surroundings.

Bought this to read during my Hawaii Theme Week - a slight change from Ocean Theme. My students loved the colorful pictures. Text is short enough to keep them engaged. Great story for parents, teachers, grandparents who like stories about fictionalized animals.

I'm going to Japan in two weeks, and I've been searching the internet for the best ways to save money while still experiencing the culture. This book is amazing!!! The information is well organized by region and attraction type (modern Tokyo vs. traditional Tokyo, for example). There are recommended restaurants with prices listed, ways to find free wifi hotspots, maps with 100 yen stores, and even tips on where to fill up your water bottle!I wish I'd had this book when I started planning this trip. It would have saved me a ton of time and money. As it is, I am excited to have this guide for planning the remainder of my trip. It will be a big help when I'm in Japan! I feel more confident about being able to navigate the country and get a good deal while doing it.

Highly recommend this book.Packed with lots of juicy tips, the author writes in a fun, easy to understand tone, no excessive jargon.It has given us confidence to plan our trip, book our flights and lodging.I had no idea we could do this so affordably. We have already save a lot.For example: Our lodging expense for 30 days, 2 adults, averages $33 per day!We are very excited about using the JR (Japan Rail Pass) and special one day city passes available only to tourists!Also, looking forward to visiting the many free or very low cost, but high quality scenic areas, shrines, temples and more.The author gives a short historic background description of each city covered, with main points of interest, best ways to get around, best time of day to go, info on how to save even more $, 100 yen and 300 yen stores, supermarkets, cheap but good restaurants, and much, much more.So-o-o glad I got this book. You will too. Absolutely worth it.

We found this book very helpful on our trip to Tokyo and Kyoto. It's basic, easily readable format made it great to have with us when we were out sightseeing; very easy to find things quickly. We used many of the food recommendations and enjoyed them. The only problem we had was that sometimes the directions to places were a bit too brief, and the maps would be more helpful if they had a bit more detail. But overall a handy guide to carry with you.

I've been traveling Japan for three weeks and this book is _amazing_. It looks a little flimsy, but contains so much good information - cheap recommendations, easy to find, good summaries of places. Great to get a general sense of "this is what I want to do", you can always look up more on the internet. Recommends fun, cheap places that are maybe a bit out of the way but just as worth it. Highly recommend.

Good primer on frugal travel in Japan. Perhaps a bit more geared to a typical hetero male, at least in terms of lodoing, but full of useful tips and ideas for everyone.

Love this book, the way its set up is awesome! Would like if it had some street maps in it and also more info on the other regions such as Hokkaido, but the set up is exceptionally great! Willing to purchase add-ons to this book from this author if it introduced other areas not mentioned.

This book was a lifesaver for our Japan Honeymoon and planning our next Japan trip. The writing is clear and it showed us a way to fill our days while still living in a tight budget. As Japan will change, I hope this author will continue writing and update this as Japan changes.

Has way more info than one might expect from a small book. So much fun to read and doubtless will help next time I go to Japan.
