In “Didn’t See it Coming” Carey Nieuwhof outlines seven challenges that can catch a pastor or leader by surprise even though they are ubiquitous. The seven challenges are:1. Cynicism2. Compromise3. Disconnection4. Irrelevance5. Pride6. Burnout7. Emptiness.Carey calls these seven challenges “epidemics of our age.” While these things tend to catch us off guard, they don’t need to if we see the warning signs.While there may be more than seven challenges knock leaders off course, if the reader takes to heart Carey’s message, they should be able to rest in God’s presence no matter what their circumstances may be. I’m thankful that Carey uses his platform to warn leaders of the subtle and deceptive thoughts that lodge in a leader’s soul. Carey gives leaders a head’s up so they won’t be blindsided. If the reader allows his message deeper access to his or her soul, other challenges, not addressed, can be seen and addressed as well.There are challenges coming, all of us can be guaranteed of that. Are you prepared is the question? Will you see them coming? Or will you be blindsided and have your life derailed by the challenges that come? If you want to be better prepared, pick up a copy of this book! It releases on September 4, 2018. I had the great privilege of being on the launch team for this book, and have been so thankful for the opportunity to read and review this book for Carey Nieuwhof and his team. I trust you will enjoy, and experience an impact with this book!Throughout the book, Carey gives great insights and some wonderful quotes. I thought I’d end this review with a couple:“Some days, simply avoiding stupid is a win.” (A favorite of mine).“Love has a speed. And it’s slower than I am.” (For all of my fellow impatient ones like me out there, this is more truthful than any of us would like).“If you want to beet emptiness, find a mission that’s bigger than you.”I highly recommend this book to everyone, not just leaders or leaders-in-training. The lessons it contains are valuable for all.I received an Advance Reader Copy of this book.

I highly recommend "Didn't See it Coming..." by Niewhof. As a leader, I really related to his topics covering burnout, cynicism, pride, compromise, and emptiness. While there are countless books on leadership, this books zeros in on the heart of the leader. I'm not sure I've read a book that was so focused on really helping leaders with their inner self. If leadership occurs from within, this work helps you think through issues that occur when you're in the trenches. (BTW, I received an advanced copy of this book)I couple of my favorite quotes were "make big decisions on a good day" and "pride convinced me I deserved more". Niewhof certainly bears his own soul as he shares his issues along the way, including his burnout and struggles to survive through it. He does and now thrives, so the reader has hope on how to make it through to the other side.Now, there are times this book was a bit heavy. While I breezed through some chapters, I also had a few that I needed to process and consider before I moved on. I wouldn't put it on the quick read because I needed to consider myself along the way.I bought this book for several people in the trenches of ministry. If this will help them avoid burnout or landmines, it'll be worth it. While I thought "My First Two Years in Ministry" by Doug Fields was important for new ministers, I now think "I Didn't See it Coming..." by Niewhof is essential if you've been in ministry 5 or more years. I'll read it again in the future.

I have been in leadership most of my working life. I have watched many people battle cynicism, compromise, disconnection, irrelevance, pride, emptiness, and especially burnout by changing jobs or careers. Rather than doing something to restore hope and confidence, people start over. While this may works for a time, it is not a permanent solution. "Didn't See It Coming" is that solution. It is a must read for anyone working in the midst of a crazy rat race. So really it is must read for everyone! Carey's book provides brilliant insight and practices at will guide you to avoid these seven unexpected obstacles because they will no longer be unexpected. Carey's book provides practical help if you already find yourself experiencing some or all of the infectious challenges. I have read through his book quickly. As I read, through Carey's honest and authentic words, I saw where many of these challenges are creeping into my life. Now I will be going back and reading the practices again so I can plan out to implement them in my life. This is a book worth reading every year! I can't wait to share this book with my co-workers!

i love tank girl. the story line is a bit obnoxious compared to the original writers and illustrators, but i cant get enough of tank girl's antics.

I Love my Tank Girl !

The artwork is great, but the story is weak and the dialogue is kind of stupid.

If you're familiar with Tank Girl, you know that she's far from the motherly type- despite hints early in the series that she'd eventually get knocked up. A girl who wishes for the world's biggest can of lager & spends her time shooting things with her tank just doesn't really sound like a great role model for a baby. Too bad for her that destiny has other things in mind.Booga knows something's wrong when TG refuses her morning brewski & when she isn't cheered up by blowing something up with her beloved tank, TG sets off on a walk to clear her head. Little does she know that she's in for a little bundle of joy that is heralded by many as a messiah sent for the end of days.While nothing will ever take volume 1's place as my absolute favorite (my first taste of the comics), this volume is still pretty fun. The artwork is absolutely gorgeous & the colors just really pop. I can't really compare this to the un-remastered version since I've never seen it, but this really was well done.Fans of TG will love this comic. Fans of Jamie Hewlett will love this comic. People who haven't heard of her will still get some enjoyment out of this but would be better served by picking up some of the earlier volumes or at least the movie. (The movie is terrible when compared to the comics but is still pretty fun to watch.)

I am a new author with no experience in the world of either traditional publishing or self-publishing, and I had no idea where to begin. I was lucky enough to be provided with a pre-launch copy of this updated and expanded version of the Handbook for review and have found the “Self-Publisher’s Legal Handbook” to be an indispensable reference tool and guide. With the help of Ms. Sedwick’s Handbook I am now about half way through setting up my own self-publishing business.The “Self-Publisher’s Legal Handbook” is clear and easy to understand, uncluttered by “legalese”, and I would highly recommend it to any author who is interested in self-publishing. The Handbook provides you with all of the basic facts for every aspect of self-publishing as well as step-by-step instructions and additional important references. Ms. Sedwick is direct and honest about the risks and potential dangers of self-publishing without being “foreboding” or negative. She points out the pitfalls, but does not give you the impression that the whole process would be “too much” for an inexperienced person to handle. That was and is a big plus for me. It is much easier to absorb information and learn something new if you are presumed intelligent. And there is a lot to learn. I read this book in about a day. Everything is laid out clearly and points to exactly where to turn to do further research. Every self-publisher needs this as a reference tool. I would recommend reading this right after your manuscript is complete so that you can map out the life of your book.

I have the 2nd Ed. of Ms. Sedwick's , and have read enough of it to already consider it to be a fine product. Her style of writing is clear. I even find it to be pleasurable reading. Overall she gives this reviewer confidence in her book. She appears to know and cover her subject more than adequately. It even contains material on estate planning and taxes for writers. The book's well-considered design promotes ease of reading. (NOTE): I am a long-retired lawyer who took copyright law in law school decades ago.

Everything about this book is excellent. While I originally purchased it for some information and advise on pen names and writing about real live people, which has become a big concern for me, and my first little book I am writing, I ended up reading every word in the entire book. She has given me a blueprint to follow for my entire journey and I am paying close attention to each step. She gives easy to follow instruction and advise on each step you need to be aware of if you are new to the writing world. She has put so much information in the book and I am following her advise on it all and just ordered my first book that she referenced regarding resources.It is so well written and such an easy read that I could not get enough and have re-read many sections. I fell in love with the entire book as it is beautiful to look at. The size of the book makes for a good read as the width let's the page you just turned, fall nicely to the side as to be out of the way. The design inside is gorgeous and easy on the eyes for both content and looks. The entire book, it's technical information and the artistry of the look you get to see is almost magical. Like I said, I fell in love and I thank the author for her expertise, advise and vision. Being a newbie, I am smitten.

I found this book while just starting the murky process of publishing my first ebook. What seemed daunting and fraught with bad decisions before reading this book became quite manageable. Helen (the author) succinctly addressed every consideration I worried about (plus many more) and gave me the confidence to just get on with it. Using the book as a template, I made a long, prioritized to-do list and worked through it. A week later, decisions had been made, the work was complete (including a supporting website), and the book was published on both Amazon and Draft2Digital. Helen's book significantly reduced the time involved in first-time self-publishing while increasing confidence. Extremely valuable!

This is the translation to buy of this essential core text in the Islamic tradition. It consists of translations of about half of the hadiths in Imam Nawawi's original collection together with corresponding Arabic text. The Arabic print is clear and easy to make out. This translation is vastly superior to the deplorable hack-job published by Dar-us-Salam Publications, which was written in an English that is an embarrassment to read and which propagates much Wahhabi nonsense not present in the original collection. The agenda of the publishers of this translation is not paraded about in the book, but is (for the record) connected with the much more palatable Fethullah Gülen movement -- and they have a better right to the text than Dar-us-Salam does. The English is not perfect, but it is quite acceptable.

I was so happy to be able to read this book. I had a much older copy of these Hadiths which was printed and formatted in a way that didn’t encourage me to study them as much as this book did. The contents pages are clear and I found that I could read thru the book and absorb the messages. I recommend this book to others who want to learn about import Hadiths.

The Wind Through the Keyhole takes place between books 4 and 5 in the main DT story line. Since he couldn't really have a major plot without screwing up the continuity of the first seven books, King uses this book to tell some back-story for Roland a some world building.This book is split up into three different stories, the first being Roland and co. riding out a storm, with Roland once again telling his ka-tet about his life growing up. The second part tells how Roland and his fellow gunslinger-in-training Jamie De Curry investigated rumors of a shape-shifter in an obscure part of the Kingdom. The third is a fairy tale, of how a young boy named Tim faced the many dangers of an enchanted forest to give his mother a gift, an old legend with a requisite Stephen King twist. All three of these stories make for great light reading, and tie in incredibly well with the main series.Here's hoping for some more DT flashbacks in the future.

I'll start out by stating the one and only flaw with this book. That is if you haven't read the other dark tower novels, or at least the first four, you may not fully understand this book or it's writing style so I encourage you to read the other books first before reading this.As for this book, it starts off after the end of Wizard and glass, with Roland giving a story from his past when he was a young gunslinger in a nearby town from Gilead to deal with a "Skin-Man" creature terrorizing and slaughtering the community. But halfway into that story he begins telling another story, more of a fairy tale, about a young boy on a quest to save his mother from his abusive step father.I don't really want to go further into it, but the gist is basically a story within a story, so it may throw some off a bit but trust me, the wind through the keyhole is very engaging, never boring, and in my opinion one of the best editions of the series. I've read the other dark tower novels and are my favorite of King's works. This was a great read and made it blast to be able to relive Roland and all the other characters in the series.Highly recommended for Dark Tower fans and newcomers alike.

If you're a fan of the Dark Tower series by Stephen King then this is simply one more book that rounds out that story. If you miss Roland, Eddie, Susannah, Jake and yes of course Oiy (apologies in advance for any misspellings of names here, forgive me Mr. King) the way I do then this book will be a total delight, a homecoming for sorts to slip back into Mid-World and spend time with friends old and new as they continue their journey to the Dark Tower.And no, the story isn't spoiled a bit by knowing what fate still awaits our beloved Ka-Tet. This is actually more of the story of what happened to a younger Roland following the events he tells of in Wizard and Glass, treating us to a double world of present and past in much the same way that book did.For me this book joins the collection of King's greatest story ever told. And yes, I really do mean that.

When I was done with the Dark Tower series, which was an enjoyable but lengthy commitment, I felt a small pang of loss. That was it, there was no more. Sad to say goodbye to Roland and his ka-tet. I wanted more. Then Steve-O granted me just another morsel from Mid World in "The Wind Through the Keyhole". Nice. And the telling of the tale is interesting too, in that King wraps this gift in multiple layers. If you have enjoyed following the Gunslinger on his quest, you will want to add this to the series. It seems to fit between Wizard and Glass and The Wolves of the Calla. Enjoy!

This is overall an excellent book. The book is 8th in the Dark Tower series, but more appropriately can be considered book 4.5. The novel features a story, in a story, an interesting & unusual way to do a novel. The novel starts off with the band of 5 from book 4, on their trip to find the Dark Tower. A deadly storm (a "starkblast") comes up, and they are trapped in a shelter for 3 days. During this time, Roland tells them a story from his youth, to entertain them. The story concerns one of his first assignments as a gunslinger, sent by train to a distant land to find the source of reports of a murderous shapeshifter (reports which his father doesn't believe are true.) The reports are true, and his first night there, another multiple homicide occurs. A young boy is the only surviving witness, but even through Roland's hypnotism, he recalls little. Roland locks the boy and himself in the town jail as protection, fearing that the shapeshifter may target the boy, since he's a witness. To entertain and comfort the boy, Roland tells him a story that his mother often told him, about a brave boy who survives a "starkblast". So the first 3rd of the book concerns Roland's history, the second 3rd, the story he tells the boy, then the third 3rd, wraps up the story from history. Both stories are very well-written and entertaining. The story is suspenseful, but perhaps not quite as suspenseful as some of King's others stories (after all, we all know that Roland will survive the shapeshifter.) As a bonus, we learn a bit more about Roland's mother, and a last letter she wrote to Roland. The story Roland tells the boy involves a character who is an evil tax-collector from the land of Gilead, I highly doubt that Roland's mother, raising Roland in Gilead the supposed bastion of good on the earth, would have ever told a tale featuring such a character. That was the one part that seemed out of place in the novel, since the story could have been told without reference to an evil representative from Gilead. The rest of the story Roland the boy told was quite developed, especially in its discussion of marvels from the "old people." Concerning Roland's story of his youth, I have a feeling that its not quite 100% consistent with the rest of the books (like the Manni people in book 5, weren't they new to Susannah/Jake/Eddie, yet they should have known them from this story. Still, any inconsistencies are small, and quite forgivable considering this excellent novel.
